About Miklos Kassai

My present practice

I work in a Jersey General Hospital caring for a 100.000 population. My practice is about 80% colorectal with the whole spectrum of this subspecialty. I treat patients with benign and malignant pathology including cancer of the colon and the rectum, IBD and diverticular disease. I care for patients with benign rectal and anal diseases like rectal prolapse and other minor anal conditions. I participate in a 1:3 on call rota that keeps a strong general surgical involvement. Routine and emergency cholecystectomies and hernia repairs are also part of my practice.

I enjoy performing laparoscopic procedures. It has become my practice for all elective colorectal resections except a few very complicated cases like multiple abdominal fistulas following repeated urological interventions. I also perform laparoscopic anterior mesh rectopexies for prolapse. I do SILS (Single Port Laparoscopic Surgery) that promises an even more shortened hospital stay. TAMIS (Trans Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery) is also a new technique by which we can remove larger polyps and early cancers from the rectum without performing major transabdominal resection.
